About…

After 40 years as a serious hobbyist photographer that began with a 1950’s era camera and has traveled all along the innovation arc of photography to include the modern digital medium, I have finally found the perfect moment to make my lifelong passion for photography my sole focus and the “final act” of my widely varied career.

In other words, after doing all of the things I was supposed to do, I finally get to do what I want to do. I hope you enjoy my work.

Peace.

My Gear.

I am often asked about the camera and lens that I use. While I am always willing to do a “show and tell” just because I think they are really cool, I don’t think what they are is as important as they way in which they are used.

Based on my experience over the years, with countless cameras ranging from old, large-format film cameras, all the way through to the ultra-modern digital beast’s I primarily use today, any camera in the hands of someone who knows how to capture images can be the best camera ever made.

Concentrate on skills over equipment, on capturing images over acquiring gear, and use whatever camera and lens you have to get out and shoot.

That said, here is some of the gear I rely on most often.

Cameras

  • Canon EOS R5

The R5 is the latest addition and instantly became my favorite camera! I have used it extensively in the field capturing wildlife and macros. I am looking forward to using it more for landscapes and in-studio work because it is just that amazing of a camera.

  • Canon EOS R6

My first mirrorless camera, I bought the R6 for wildlife. Before the R5, this was my favorite camera! It’s speed and auto focus were a big upgrade over the 5D MIV. Once the R5 came along, this became my backup or second camera.

  • Canon EOS 5D Mark IV

Previously my all around workhorse, I still use this tank-of-a-camera for macros, studio work, and filming. It is one of the best DSLR cameras ever made and still has a long life ahead even if mirrorless is the primary system I use going forward.

  • Canon EOS 5D SR

At 50 mega-pixels, the 5D SR is the highest resolution camera in my arsenal. It is also the most challenging camera to use precisely because it is 50MP. I use this camera for landscapes and studio work whenever high resolution is required.
